Growing Towards integrates evidenced-based coaching methods with years of teaching and academic advising experience. Building psychological flexibility with the ACT Matrix helps loosen up anxiety and negative thinking, while designing habits helps students build confidence and executive functioning skills.
Academic achievement is more than just skill in reading, writing, and math. It includes meta-skills like setting priorities, scheduling, capturing and processing information, and managing test anxiety. Often, students have to stumble on or cobble these skills together on their own. School often filters out and sorts students based on these skills and habits. Why not teach them directly so that everyone can succeed? This is the aim of growing Toward Academic coaching.
College is the best. And sometimes it's the worst.
Stepping up to college level work can be a steep learning curve. How do you set priorities when professors assign so much reading and writing? How do you take notes effectively? How do you manage getting grades in my classes and still have a life? How do I manage all this stress? Why does this seem easy for some people and hard for you?
Answering all those questions can be tough. You aren't on your own. Growing Toward coaching will teach you two core processes, the Matrix and habit design, to help you tame the overwhelm. You'll also have the benefit of a coach that's been there before. I went through college, two Masters degrees, and a PhD before becoming a teacher and coach.

Masters = Master of Pain?
PhD = Piled higher and Deeper?

What I learned from a B.A., M.Sc, M.A., and PhD....
Ask someone who received their Masters or PhD and they’ll usually tell you that it was both one of the best - and one of the worst - times in their life. A thesis is creative, difficult, and often nebulous task. The level of work and stress can be daunting. Having a team on your side will help make the most of your experience and keep your sanity. If you are lucky, you’ll have amazing colleagues and a great supervisor. If not then life can be downright miserable.
A coach will help round out your team, make the learning curve gentler, and help you avoid common pitfalls. I don't need just any coach though - you need someone who's been there. I have two Masters degrees and a PhD. I've been through it. I wish I had these tools and techniques at the start.

The transition from college or graduate school to the job market can be a challenging one. People often lose the support structure they developed over the course of their years in school. It's a time of rapid change and learning. You'll probably have to adopt a different strategies and habits.
If you've worked with the ACT Matrix and Habit design (the two processes at the core of Growing Toward) then you'll be prepared.
You've tried this productivity method and that task management system. You've read this book, downloaded that app, and even taken that course. They've all helped a little bit, but nothing has ever quite delivered. Sound familiar?
There are tons of productivity and time-management systems out there. There are lots of coaches out there. What makes Growing Toward different is the focus on psychological flexibility (ACT Matrix), the focus on small, daily habits (habit design), and the accountability that comes from a coach AND an online system to track results. It's not a "system" that you can fail at. It's a relationship that is built and a process that allows you to notice what works and what doesn't work that lets you evolve your own system over time. In fact, you already have a productivity system operating right now. You just haven't optimized it yet. Having a coach, some core principles, and an online system will help make that process quicker, easy, and more reliable than it would be otherwise.

What is the best fitness routine or diet out there?
It's the one you actually do.
What's a healthy lifestyle?
It's a constellation of skills and habits that support how you want to feel and what you want to be able to do.
I spent 8 years working in the fitness industry. The amount of information out there is both voluminous and contradictory. Here's the truth. The best fitness and nutrition program out there is the one you actually do. Don't aim for perfect. Aim for what you enjoy doing and the thing that works for you. The Matrix and habit design are powerful tools in identifying and explore what works, then increase consistency. Having a coach and a system will keep you accountable. Growing Towards coaching combines all these elements.
